Place Name

The town takes its name from the July 16, 1717, day of the Virgen del Carmen, when the pirates were defeated and expelled from the island of Don Alonso Felipe de Andrade on the bridge of San Felipe.

Geography

Is located southeast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the west of the island of Carmen, which is situated between the Gulf of Mexico and the lagoon of terms.

Stands out an important center of Mexican oil operations, which remains in the Campeche area most important hydrocarbon exploitation of Mexico.
